Message From Regional Recreation Director
I am super excited to be part of the 2011 Summer Day Camp Program. Last year’s pilot project was a tremendous success and based on feedback and evaluation, we have tweaked this year’s program to be even more successful. I am particularly pleased with the skills and abilities our staff will be bringing to the program. I am expecting much physical and social activity in a healthy, fun and educational environment.

About The Program

Eastport Peninsula Recreation & Wellness believes that healthy people equals healthy communities. In an effort to provide recreation and wellness opportunities for all ages on our peninsula, we have developed a Summer Day Camp program specific to children and youth. The Provincial Wellness Plan, developed by the Department of Health and Community Services, aims to address a set of priorities which contribute to health and wellness. These priorities are used as our guiding principles for program development.

Healthy Eating

Children and youth will be participating in Food & Fun as part of the Summer Day Camp program. Preparing nutritious snacks and participating in educational games and activities surrounding the Canada Food Guide, will enhance knowledge and skills, enabling each child to adopt healthy eating practices.

Physical Activity

Children and youth will participate in many physical activity opportunities at Summer Day Camp, achieving the recommended daily amount as per physical activity guidelines. Examples include games, sports, dance, hikes, beach activities, etc.

Injury Prevention

Injuries are predictable and preventable. Children and youth will participate in various injury prevention programs such as People Savers, Bike Safety, Personal Safety, Fire Safety, etc. Special guests will be invited to Summer Day Camp from time to time.
In addition to these three priority directions, children and youth will participate in book club (in partnership with the Beaches Library), crafts and drama.

A complete weekly schedule of activities will be provided every Monday.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
